What is it used for?
The Theoretical TS Strip option calculates the volume of soil above the design level, based on the projected model (assuming it has a defined group depth).
In the example:
- The top green line shows the existing ground level.
- The green line just below it represents the base of the group depth assigned to the surface.
- The red line represents the intended design level.
The quantity generated by the Theoretical Top Soil Strip tool is the amount of topsoil (in the second model) that needs to be removed before any further excavation work can proceed.
Be mindful, that this option will not work without generating DTMs of the surfaces. Ultimately, you're looking to secure the quantities of the hatched volumes seen in the section below:
How to use it?
To begin with, you will need to create a DTM surface of both models to use as intended. The DTMs will need to be grouped so you can identify the volume of soil you want to calculate from specific areas.
The option is found within the Prisms function under the DTM tab.
Once you have selected the Prisms function, the following dialog box will appear where you can choose the Theoretical TS Strip option as hightlighted below.
