The Parallel, Perpendicular and Flip options allow you to work with annotation that is associated with line features. These options use the position of the annotation’s point on the feature and the direction of that feature at that location. Each option generates a short pop-up menu asking you to choose which annotation to work with.
Indicate - This option will allow you to work with single items of annotation on a line feature. You will be expected to indicate the point whose annotation is to be altered.
Feature - This option will allow you to work with all the annotation on the points of a line feature. You will be asked to indicate the line feature whose annotation is to be altered.
The three options perform functions as follows.
Parallel - This option will make the annotation parallel to its line feature.
Perpendicular - This option will make the annotation perpendicular to its line feature.
Flip - This option will flip the annotation so that it is the other side of the line feature.

Perpendicular Annotation |
Flipped Annotation |
The three images above show annotation that is in initially parallel. It is then changed to perpendicular and finally flipped so that it is perpendicular but on the other side of the feature.
