The Along options on the menu allow you to generate points at set intervals along lines and arcs. These options follow the current pick mode and you will only be asked to indicate an object, sketch a rectangle or confirm the list operation. When you select one of the Along options from the point generation menu, a dialog box like that shown below will be displayed. This enables you to refine the points that are generated.
Most of the options in this dialog have been described in Generate - The Heights of Generated Points article and you are referred there for further information. The new or changed options are described below.
The Start Chainage field allows you to specify what the start chainage of the indicate element is. The Chainage Interval field defines the distance between which points should be created. When dealing with alignment data, it is often the case that the start of the alignment is not zero. If you define a start chainage of 5m and a chainage interval of 10m, the first point will be 5m along the indicated feature, the second 15m, etc. Each point will also have a chainage dimension, CHN, added to it.
The At Apexes check box allows you to specify whether you wish to create points at all of the vertexes of an indicated polyline. If this is not ticked, points will only be created at the start and end points of the polyline and at the specified interval. This can be used to reduce the number of points needed to represent smooth contours.
