The Add Attributes and Remove Attributes options allow you to add or remove points based upon the attributes assigned to those point. These attributes can be a value that has been assigned to a point, such as a number or dimension, or something that is implied from the code of a point, such as a point style or layer. When selected, a pop-up menu appears asking you to define the attribute to be considered, as shown below.
The Point options allow you to add or remove points based upon the numeric or string value of attributes assigned to points. If you wish to select points based upon co-ordinate values, use the options in the grid view to add them to the current grid selection together with the list options in the grid view.
List by Point Code
The Point Code options allow you to add or remove points based upon their codes. A dialog box will be displayed asking you to enter a search string for the code. Note that any comma codes attached to points will be ignored but any string numbers will be taken into consideration.
You can use wildcard characters where an asterisk means “anything starting with” and a question mark means “any character in this position”. For example, BB* will select points coded as BB, BB1, BB11, etc. Also, BB? will select BB1 but not BB or BB11. You can combine the two together, for example B?G*. Note that you cannot use the asterisk to select all points with a given prefix since B* will select any points using a prefix of B, BB, BD, etc.
The Point Prefix options allow you to add or remove points based upon the code prefix that any point is using. When this option is selected, n4ce will analyse the current model to identify which of the code prefixes in the project are being used. These are then listed in a dialog box shown below. To help you, the number of strings that use each prefix and the prefix description are also displayed.
For each code prefix in the list, there will either be a green tick or a red cross. A green tick signifies that you wish to select or remove points using that prefix whilst a red cross tells n4ce to ignore these prefixes. To toggle between the tick and the cross, double click the prefix in the list. When you select the OK button, the selection setting for each of the displayed prefixes is remembered for this project.
List by Dimensions
The Point Dimension options allows you to add or remove points based upon any dimensions attached to a point. A dialog box will be displayed asking you to specify the dimension selection criteria.
The Dimension field is a combo box which allows you to enter the name of the dimension to search for. Selecting the drop arrow will display a list of pre-defined dimensions including those generally used for normal surveys and those generated for design purposes. If you are searching for any other dimension, type the name into the edit field part of the combo box.
If you are searching for numeric dimensions, select the Numeric Select radio button and the fields in the associated group will be enabled. The Minimum and Maximum fields define the numeric bounds of the selection criteria. The five check boxes to the right of the group can be used singly or in conjunction with others to refine the test.
If you are searching for string dimensions, select the String Select radio button and the Search String field will be enabled so that you can enter the required search string. The ‘*’ wildcard character can be used to extend the search string. If it appears at the end of the search string, dimension values that start with those characters preceding the asterisk will be selected. Therefore BB* will select BB1, BB2, and so on. If the asterisk appears at the beginning of the search string, dimension values that contain those characters following the asterisk will be selected. If no asterisk characters are present, the dimensions string will have to match the search string. Note that dimension selection ignores whether dimension values are upper or lower case.
List by Other Attributes
The Point Number options allow you to add or remove points based upon their point number. For this option, it is assumed that the point numbers are numerical and n4ce will compare that against the selection criteria. If the number of a point starts and/or ends with letters, these are removed. A dialog box will be displayed asking you to specify how point numbers are to be interrogated.
This dialog gives you options based upon a minimum and/or maximum point number entered in the fields to the right of the dialog. How these values are used is defined by selecting the appropriate radio buttons to the left. Note that if a point has a number that is the same as either of the minimum or maximum values, it will not be considered unless the Inside Range option is being used.
The Point Height option allow you to add or remove points based upon the height of the point. A dialog box, which is like that for selection by number, will be displayed asking you to specify the selection criteria. Again, if a point has a height that is the same as either of the minimum or maximum values, it will not be considered unless the Inside Range option is being used.
The Point Remark options allow you to add or remove points based upon any remarks attached to a point. A simple dialog box will be displayed asking you to enter the search string for remark selection. The ‘*’ wildcard character can be used to extend the search string. If it appears at the end of the search string, points whose remarks start with those characters preceding the asterisk will be selected. If the asterisk appears at the beginning of the search string, points whose remarks contain those characters following the asterisk will be selected. If no asterisk characters are present, the point remark will have to match the search string. Note that remark selection ignores whether remarks are upper or lower case.
The Point Photos options allow you to add or remove points based upon whether a point has photographic images attached to it. No dialog box will be displayed but all points with attached images will be added or removed.
The Heights Deleted option allows you to add all the points whose heights have been deleted. This is useful when you only wish to display a point where there is a height.
