The Typed Graded option allows you to create a parallel feature which is projected from a design line string through a reference string to calculate the height. This function is useful when extrapolating models or when generating offset strings for batter boards. You will be asked to indicate the design line feature and then the reference feature. The points of the design line feature are projected perpendicularly until they strike the reference feature. The heights of these two points then define the slope for the parallel offset at that point.
After you have indicated the features, the normal parallel dialog box is displayed. The height calculation options are disabled as, for this option, they are not needed. An additional check box appears called Offset Perp to Grade. This enables you to offset the calculated height by a known amount perpendicular to the slope of the parallel offset and if it is ticked, the Relative Height field becomes visible. This can be used to check the tolerance of railway platform edges relative to the plane of the railway tracks.
The new parallel feature is normally offset from the reference feature, not the indicated design feature. If the Parallel to Design check box is ticked, the new parallel feature will be offset from the design feature.
