The Densify options provide tools for increasing the point density along feature strings. This is particularly useful of you are trying to create models from features with sparse data, such as foundations slabs for retail developments.
The Indicate options allow you to densify points along a feature, between selected points of a feature or any individual feature segment. You will be asked to select the feature elements to densify and the dialog shown below will then be displayed. This controls where new points are calculated and the heights that assigned to those points. The Multiple All option will densify all line features that are displayed and on an active layer.
The Plan Calculation section defines how and where new points will be generated. Click this link for more information on the ways in which new points can be added to a line feature.
The Add to List check box allows you to add the newly created points to the point list. This may be necessary if you wish to change the point style of the new points to perform some other operation such as saving them to a file or including them into the DTM.
Height of New Points
The Height Calculation group defines how the heights of any new points are to be calculated. There are two methods normally available.
Linear Interpolation - The point height is linearly interpolated along the feature segment into which the point is being inserted.
Model Interpolation - The point height is interpolated from either a DTM or a Point Cloud which is selected using the Reference Model field.
When interpolating onto a point cloud, options will be made available to choose the Highest, Lowest or Average point within a given search radius. If no point is located, the the point will be given a null level.
There are up to four check boxes in the densify dialog.
On Curves Only - If this check box is ticked, the densify process is only carried out on curved feature segments. You may wish to increase the accuracy of any areas and volumes calculated using curved features.
No Annotation - If this check box is ticked, no annotation will be displayed on the new points. This overrides any code defaults where text is to be displayed for the features code.
Prefix Created Points - If this check box is ticked, all new points will have numbers prefixed by a D character. The number assigned to each new point is the same number as that of the first point on the segment.
Add to List - If this check box is checked, all new points will be selected as part of the point list.
