The Feature Create option allows you to create features from existing points using a dot to dot approach. These could be points which were not coded in the field or you may wish to create a feature by duplicating existing points. When selected, you will be asked to indicate the sequence of points that you wish to use, you should note that a point cannot be indicated twice. If the point has an empty code, it will be used automatically. If the point already has a code, and is therefore part of another feature, the dialog box shown to the below will be displayed.
You have the option to either recode or create a duplicate of the indicated point. If you recode the point, it will be removed from the feature that it was originally part of. There are four further check boxes in the dialog which allow you to control the creation of new features.
Apply to All Selected Points - This assumes that for any further points, the answer you give here will be the same and the dialog will not be displayed again.
No Duplicate Heights - This check box will apply the no height comma code, Z, to any duplicated point so that no duplicate height annotation is created.
Copy or Retain Comma Codes - This will copy or retain any comma codes that have been applied to the indicated points.
Close Feature - This will automatically close the feature that is being created. If the indicated points do not have codes, you may have to close the new feature manually.
Code Default from First Indicated Point - This will use the code of the first point that is indicated as the default code for the new feature. If this is not checked, the default code will be the code that was last used to create a feature or insert a point.
When you have finished selecting points, you will be asked to enter the code to be applied to the new feature, the default being the previously used code, and the feature will then be displayed on the screen.
